Using the Physio Light
During the therapy the eyes of the user should be in a distance of approx. 50 cm to the UV-filter glass of the unit. The user should, once per minute, look directly into the lighting source for a few seconds.
Side Effects:
The experience with thousands of users shows that light therapy is generally very well tolerated and side effects are generally mild. However, seldom and usually of short duration headaches, eyestrain, irritability, over activity, dryness of the eyes or of the nasal passages and sinus have been experienced.

Medical explanation of the effect of light therapy
Today we know that light works for many physiological processes and is a natural time keeper. Bright light passing over our optic system activates impulses in our inner ear. It uses light/dark information which activates rhythmical chemical process via our brain and ones biological clock. So with a very 'Bright Light' an active mood of well-being is induced, thus suppressing sleep inducing hormones.
How to use the light therapy unit PhysioLight LD 220
The light therapy units PhysioLight LD 220 can be used for the treatment of the following diseases:
- winter depression
- non-seasonal affective disorder
- premenstrual syndrome
- sleep disturbances
Using the light therapy unit PhysioLight LD 220
Please put the unit on a firm surface, and connect the plug of the mains supply cord with the wall socket. Please take a seat in a distance of approx. 50 cm in front of the unit. The duration of use regarding this distance is approx. 30 minutes. The duration of use of 30 minutes can also be reached by several sessions during one day. By turning the switch of the timer the units begin to shine.
The eyes should be open during use. There is the possibility, e.g. to read, to watch television or practise other activities.
You should look into the light therapy unit PhysioLight LD 220 each 1 - 1 ½ minutes for a few seconds. A continuous staring into the lamp should be avoided. After expiration of the duration of use the LD 220 switches off automatically.
In case you want to re-pack the light therapy units PhysioLight LD 220 after use, please wait at least 15 minutes in order that they can cool off. Please do not expose the housing to the sun.
Frequency and point of time of use
The treatment of the doctor should be carried out 2 - 3 weeks five times per week and then 2 - 3 weeks three times per week and afterwards, according to requirement, as soon as the symptoms occur again. Use at home can particularly be carried out daily during the autumn and winter period.
The optimal time of the treatment in case of winter depression is early in the morning or the period of the day where the mood is particularly bad. The premenstrual syndrome PMS ('days before the days') and the forward-shifted sleep phase syndrome (going to bed very early and very early wake up) will be treated most effectively in the evening, the back-shifted sleep phase syndrome (going to bed very late and very late wake up) will be treated most effectively in the morning.
Side effects and contra-indications, e.g. circumstances which prohibit the using of the light therapy
Rarely and mostly short-lasting side effects are headache, nausea, irritation and burning of the eyes.
An absolute contra-indication does not exist until now. Please take care in case of all types of eye diseases, and the eye specialist should be consulted before. In case of patients being under treatment with lithium and medicine which increase the sensitivity of the eye on light a supervision of the light therapy by an eye specialist should be considered.

DAVITA ® grants a guarantee for these units for the duration of 24 months as of purchase date. This guarantee is valid for defects regarding material and fabrication and includes spare parts as well as labour. The guarantee expires if the unit was damaged, was not used appropriately or non-appropriate interventions were made.

Radiation emission and duration of use:
The radiation performances outside the visible area (infra-red, ultra-violet) are so inferior that they are harmless for the eyes and the skin if the usual periods of use adhered to. The ultra-violet part in the light will be filtered out.
